SBIFF is a 501C3 non-profit organization. Unfortunately due to the importance of the film submission revenue in operating the Festival we are unable to offer fee waivers. Recognizing the funding challenges that filmmakers face we encourage you to take advantage of the Earlybird deadline.
As one of our community outreach program, there are no submission fees for “verified” Santa Barbara Filmmakers who are full time residents of Santa Barbara County. If you qualify as a Santa Barbara Filmmaker, please follow these instructions to obtain your fee waiver.
Before submitting on Withoutabox please e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know your submission is on the way. In your e-mail, please tell us how you are related to the Santa Barbara community.
Santa Barbara Filmmakers are considered as living in Santa Barbara County. Student films completed at UCSB, SBCC, Brooks, Westmont, and other Santa Barbara schools are also considered Santa Barbara films. Films shot in Santa Barbara are only considered Santa Barbara films if the filmmakers live locally. If you are unsure if your film qualifies, please contact us.
Once we have determined your film qualifies as a “Santa Barbara Film” you will be provided with a promotional code for a free submission to input during your WOB submission process. (Please note that once submission fees have been paid they may not be refunded even if your film subsequently qualifies as a local film)
Please clearly mark your submission on the packaging that the film is from a Santa Barbara filmmaker.
Your odds of acceptance are much higher if your film is submitted to the “Santa Barbara Films” category however films submitted to this category are not eligible for competition. Qualifying local films submitted to other categories will still receive a fee waiver.
