VOLUNTEER FAQ SHEET

1. How do I Register to be a Volunteer?
Please visit www.shiftboard.com/sbiff and click Register to sign up to Volunteer. You will be contacted via email with a final confirmation of your registration.

2. What are the requirements to be a Volunteer?
You must be at least 18 years of age to Volunteer for the Festival. Volunteers who work parties or Special Events must be 21 or older.

3. What jobs will I perform as a volunteer?
Volunteers are the backbone of the Film Festival and perform a variety of jobs some of which include ticket taking, selling merchandise, helping to control lines, working the special events and parties, working in Hospitality, and setting up and striking special equipment for the events among many other duties.

4. What will I be required to wear?
The 25th Annual SBIFF Volunteer Shirt will be provided at the Volunteer screening of the Opening Night film. This shirt should be worn for all your volunteer shifts, along with clean slacks and shoes which are presentable and also comfortable. For colder weather, it is recommended that volunteers wear layers of clothing underneath their Volunteer shirt.

5. How long are the shifts?
Shifts vary from two to five or more hours. Depending upon the workload and the needs of the Film Festival, you may be asked to stay a bit longer or you may be released a bit earlier.

6. Can I choose my positions?
When you Register you will be asked to select Teams for which you would like to participate. A Theater Manager at each venue will assign jobs to each Volunteer. If you have a specific skill please let your Theater Manager know so that your skills can be used.

7. How will I know my schedule?
All volunteer scheduling will be handled through the Shiftboard webpage. Volunteers will be able to add shifts based on their own availability and interest. The Shiftboard program also allows volunteers to view and print their schedules from any computer with internet access.

8. When will I be able to schedule my shifts?
Shifts will be available by mid-January 2010, or once the Film Festival schedule is set.

9. Will I get to see movies while working shifts?
All Volunteers are given a Mini- Pak, a four film punch card that they can use to view any films they wish, excluding Opening Night. At times it may be possible for Volunteers to view movies while working a shift however it is contingent upon the workload and Festival needs and not guaranteed. If there is a film you are dying to see, it would be best not to schedule a shift for yourself.

10. What are the benefits to being a Volunteer?
It is hard work and fantastic fun! You are thrust into the middle of one of the top 50 Film Festivals in the world! Each volunteer will be able to keep their 25th Annual SBIFF Volunteer Shirts and will receive Mini-Paks to attend regular movie screenings, in alignment with the number of hours volunteered. Everyone will be invited not only to an ice cream social sponsored by Cold Stone Creamery but also to a special Volunteer – only Sneak Peak screening of the 25th annual SBIFF Opening Night film the night before it all begins! Additionally, individuals who fulfill their part or full-time commitment to volunteering are eligible for benefits that are TBD. But most importantly you will be part of a massive event and have a great time!
