Respect, Responsibility, Representation

 

Respect

  • Respect all those involved in making the festival possible. Be as polite, friendly, and helpful as possible during every interaction.
  • Respect the confidentiality of the festival and all those involved. Everyone loves to be in the know but in some cases, you MUST refrain from sharing certain information. Examples are: do not speak to press, do not share information regarding party locations or special guests, and do not gossip about artists and celebrities attending the festival.
  • Respect the pass and ticket structure of the festival. Know and follow the rules and timing of guest entry to each event.
     

Responsibility

  • Know your shifts and schedule.
  • Know what is expected of you during your shifts.
  • Know who your team leader is and ask questions if you don’t know what to do.
  • Show up to shifts on time, meet the commitment you have made, and keep track of your ambassador shirt and pass.
  • Give out accurate information and know where to find answers to questions you don’t know.
  • Be informed on the pass structure, venue locations, daily events, and details regarding your particular volunteer assignment.
     

Representation

  • Be an ambassador for SBIFF.
  • Represent the festival in the best possible way.
  • Dress appropriately and follow the volunteer dress code.
  • Refrain from eating, smoking, chewing gum, or drinking beverages other than bottled water.
  • Keep interactions with talent and guests professional. No asking for photos or handing out cards and scripts while on duty.
Volunteer Requirements

VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS

 

The basic volunteer requirements for SBIFF are as follows:

 

  • Volunteers must be at least 18 years old
  • Volunteers must sign up for a minimum of five shifts (average of 15 hours total)
  • First time volunteers must attend a virtual orientation and complete their relevant team trainings. Training dates are listed on VolunteerHub. 

Note: Volunteers are expected to attend ALL scheduled shifts. Repeated no shows will result in your volunteer account being flagged and you will no longer be able to volunteer with SBIFF. You can cancel your shifts on your VolunteerHub account or reach out to the Volunteer Coordinator to cancel.

Four Shifts

Two complimentary Film Screening Ticket to use during the 2024 Film Festival + T-Shirt

Five Shifts

Volunteer Pass – grants access to ALL film screenings during the Festival + T-Shirt

Six to Eight Shifts

Same benefits as Five Shifts PLUS Complimentary tickets to a film at SBIFF’s Riviera Theatre, valid for one year after re-opening (One per each additional shift)

Eight or More Shifts

Raffle entries for next year’s Festival Passes (One per each additional shift)

Volunteer Teams

TEAMS

SBIFF’s volunteers are organized into six teams. Each team works with their respective department of the Festival. 

To join a team:
  1. Click on your name in the upper right hand corner of the VolunteerHub landing page.
  2. Select “Manage Affiliations” from the drop down menu.
  3. Check off the teams you want to join then click “Save.”

Below are descriptions for each team. SBIFF recommends joining no more than TWO teams. This ensures that volunteers will adjust to each team’s needs and become more effective at each new shift.

Film Screenings

The Film Screenings Team assists at the cinema venues: Metro 4, Fiesta 5, and Arlington Theatres.

  • Tasks: crowd control, answer questions, take tickets, count attendees.
  • Requirements: customer service experience, attention to detail, proactive mindset.

Kids’ Events

The Kids’ Events team assists with SBIFF’s educational and family friendly events, such as Mike’s Field Trip to the Movies. All events take place at the Arlington Theatre.

  • Tasks: crowd control at kids’ movie screenings, escort school groups to and from seats.
  • Requirements: customer service experience, experience working with children, Spanish speaking skills beneficial.

Arlington Courtyard (Must be 21+)

The Arlington Courtyard Team supports SBIFF’s special events such as the VIP Happy Hours.

  • Tasks: check tickets, passes and IDs, serve refreshments, bus tables.
  • Requirements: customer service experience, flexible schedule, reliable transportation.

Festival Hub

The Festival Hub Team supports SBIFF’s Hospitality, Ticketing and Volunteer departments at SBIFF’s Education Center (1330 State St).

  • Tasks: welcome guests, answer questions, distribute passholder gift bags.
  • Requirements: A friendly and polite demeanor, hospitality experience, foreign language skills beneficial.

Tributes

The Tributes Team assists the staff at SBIFF’s red carpet events at the Arlington Theatre.

  • Tasks: manage lines at awards events, take tickets, count attendees.
  • Requirements: customer service experience, experience working under pressure, a firm yet polite demeanor.

Heavy Lifting

The Heavy Lifting Team assists with the setup and breakdown of the metal barricades around the red carpet area at SBIFF’s Tributes.

  • Tasks: set up metal barricades before events, take down metal barricades after events. 
  • Requirements: ability to work in cold or rainy weather, Ability to lift heavy weights.
Shift Sign-ups

SHIFT SIGN-UPS

 

Shift sign-ups will begin in January on TBD through VolunteerHub. 

 

How to choose a shift

  1. Log in to your VolunteerHub profile. You should be taken to SBIFF’s Volunteer Landing Page.
  2. Select the team you would like to volunteer in by clicking on your name in the upper right hand corner, then selecting the “Manage Affiliations” option from the drop down menu. 
  3. Choose a shift from the list of shifts, or “events” on the lower half of the page.
  4. Click on the red “Sign Up” button to the right of each shift listed.
  5. Confirm your information in the following page and click “Next.”

How to see your schedule

  1. Log in to your VolunteerHub profile. You should be taken to SBIFF’s Volunteer Landing Page.
  2. Click on “My Schedule” in the upper right hand corner.

How to cancel your shifts

  1. Log in to your VolunteerHub profile. 
  2. Click on “My Schedule” in the upper right hand corner.
  3. Click on the gray “Cancel Registration” button next to the shift you would like to cancel. 
  4. Confirm your cancellation by clicking on the red “Next” button.
