How do the Passes work?
There are three levels of passes for the 36th SBIFF. They will give you a login to our online platform and pending the level of pass, access to our various online offerings. Only the Concierge pass offers Drive-in Theatre benefits. Only one pass or ticket is needed for each household/device.
How do the Tickets work?
If you purchase an individual ticket to one of our Online films, tributes or panels, you will be emailed a link and a ticket voucher code. Once you go to the link and input the ticket code, you will have access to that film or event. You will have 48 hours to watch the film from that point. For events, they are at a set date and time.
Are there set screening times for Films?
The online platform will allow you to watch films on your own schedule over the 11 days of the festival.
The drive-in will have a set schedule of films that will be announced March 15th. RSVPs for each film will be accepted starting 24 hours ahead of the screening.
What is the Online platform?
The Online Platform requires a paid pass or ticket and will include ALL of our programming; Tributes, Panels, Q&As and 100+ Films. There is an app on Apple TV and Roku devices and can also be accessed with any web browser by going to watch.sbiff.org.
What is the Drive-in?
The Drive-In is 100% FREE admission, but you must RSVP in advance in order to secure your spot! RSVPs will be accepted starting 24 hours ahead of the screening. Films shown at the drive in will not include every film offered Online.
Can anyone in the world watch?
Our live events (tributes and panels) can be watched anywhere in the world, as well as some of our films. Some of our films will be required by the filmmaker to be geo-blocked to California or USA residents. These films will be clearly labeled in their descriptions when purchasing tickets. Passholders with a California residents can have access even if currently out of state.
What is Geo-blocking?
Geo-blocking is technology that restricts access to Internet content based upon the user’s geographical location.
Can the films sell out?
Some films will have a limited amount of ticket sold as we will be restricted by the filmmaker on how many views we are allowed to offer. This will not effect passholders.
Are the Tributes/Panels limited?
Being that Tributes and Panels are online, they will not sell out. They are only available to watch live so check the date and time for each event.

Will there be a printed guide of films?
We will have an online pocket guide this year for you to review the lineup and even print at home. Also check out the SBIFF app on any smart device.
Is there any social aspect to SBIFF this year?
Due to covid precautions, we will not be having any happy hours or parties.
Will there be forum for discussions?
The online platform will have a forum built in so you can discuss movies with other attendees.
Will there be interviews w/ talent after screenings?
Q&As with filmmakers will be pre-recorded and available on our online platform.

– Download our dedicated app on Roku or AppleTV (Gen4 and above).
– Cast from a computer or Android phone/tablet using the Chrome browser to a Chromecast device.
– Airplay from a computer, iPhone, or iPad to an AppleTV (Gen 2 and above) or to any Smart TV bearing the “AirPlay” badge.

What are the system requirements?
You can watch content on PCs running Windows 7+, and Intel-based Macs running OSX 10.12+. You can also watch films on Android tablets and phones using Chrome, and on iPhones and iPads using Safari.
What are the requirements for Windows computers?
Windows 7, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10
Supported browsers: Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Opera. We recommend using the latest version of your browser. Internet Explorer is not supported.
What are the requirements for Mac computers?
Mac OSX 10.12 or later
Supported browsers: Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Opera. We recommend using the latest version of your browser.
Can I watch content on my iPhone/iPad?
Yes, you can watch content using Safari on iOS 11.2 or later. Please note that you must have “Screen Mirroring” turned off for content to play, and you cannot use a lightning to HDMI adapter plugged into the device.
Can I watch content on my Android Device?
Yes, you can watch content using Chrome on Android 6.0 or later.
Can I Chromecast content?
Yes from a Chrome web browser on PC and Mac computers as well as Android devices by selecting the cast button in the bottom right-hand side of the player.
Can I AirPlay to my AppleTV?
You can AirPlay from most browsers if you have Apple TV by selecting the AirPlay button in the bottom right-hand side of the player.
What happens if I forget my password?
Use the password reset option on the login page to reset your password. You will need access to the e-mail address you use to log in.
Why does video playback stall or not play smoothly?
We use adaptive bitrate streaming which means the streaming quality will automatically adjust based on your internet speed. If your internet connection is poor or inconsistent you may experience problems during playback. If you’re on wifi, try moving closer to your router.
Why do I see a black screen if I am watching content with AirPlay on my TV?
You likely have “Screen Mirroring” turned on in your device settings. Please turn off the screen mirroring setting and start AirPlay by selecting the AirPlay button in the bottom right-hand side of the player.
